Common Man

Don’t wave flags!  Don’t sound trumpets! Don’t celebrate at all,
It’s just a common man, doing whatever it is that common men do.
Cut him off in traffic!  Be a real jerk! Flip him off and catcall,
It’s just a common man, on his way to work. No one is better than you.

Disregard the peasants.  Spend your wealth to get some more,
The common man should labor to insure, secure your fortune
Underpay him! Make him work until his back is sore
Complaints?  Harder work will make him change his tune

No parades unless they’re giving the special, special honor,
And if you’re doing that make sure the traffic’s disorderly
The common man should have no extra time to consider
The places they could go if they were treated unselfishly.

Hail to the criminal, because you’re our hero too,
The common man needs your kind of added duress.
Keep on taking what you want from commoners, it’s your due
To require the added labor and the additional stress

Make them earn it again if they didn’t have the foresight
To insure for replacement or repair, these lessons are for their good.
Take whatever you want, after all it’s only right-
Although your victims aren’t rich, you’re a kind of Robin Hood.

Don’t wave flags!  Don’t sound trumpets! Don’t celebrate at all,
It’s just a common man, doing whatever it is that common men do.
Don’t pound the drums, bake cakes, or host any parties at a hall,
Don’t do anything of service, unless you’re doing it for you.
